5. DIR Design Data Requirements

D
Written by Dheeraj Nagar

The design data does not affect the health score of a chiller. However, it helps to validate chiller operation checks more effectively. For a 30 series chiller, if the design data is unavailable, the DIR is still generated. However, the relevant data points will be blank or display error icons. The below image is for your reference:

Some design data for a 30 series chiller are configurable on the AHP portal. You can configure the design data on the Setting tab of the chiller details page. The type of the required key design data for the 30 series chiller depends on the model of the 30 series chiller. To learn more about the design data configuration, click here.

The design data sources are AHP and CCN points. Below is a summary of the required design data with their descriptions based on the chilled model number:

Design Data

Description

Source

Important Notes

Chiller Model Number

Type of Fluid

It indicates the fluid used in the chiller system (e.g., water, glycol mix). It affects heat transfer efficiency and system compatibility.

CCN - FLUID_TYP or 30 RAP: FLUIDTYP

North America - Mostly Glycol. South America - less glycol, overall, 50-50%.

India and South Asia - 98% fresh water; less than 2% glycol. Glycol is primarily utilized in industrial applications.

30HXA, 30 HXC, 30RA, 30 RB, 30 RC, 30 RAP, 30XW, 30XV, 30 XA, 30 HWV, 30GX, 30 GT, 30 GTN

If Brine, then Type

If the type of fluid is Brine, then it indicates the type of Brine fluid.

CCN

Propylene Glycol makes up 80% of glycol use, Ethaline 3-4%, with several other types also in regular use.

30HXA, 30 HXC, 30RA, 30 RB, 30 RC, 30 RAP, 30XW, 30XV, 30 XA, 30 HWV, 30GX, 30 GT, 30 GTN

Percentage of Glycol

It indicates the percentage of glycol in the fluid.

North America - 25-30% Glycol but may reach 40-45%. Most engineers will specify in a 5% range.

30HXA, 30 HXC, 30RA, 30 RB, 30 RC, 30 RAP, 30XW, 30XV, 30 XA, 30 HWV, 30GX, 30 GT, 30 GTN

Setpoint

It indicates the temperature that the chiller maintains during operation.

From CCN - CTRL_PNT

If the control point is unavailable (for example, not sent from FBOX), the alternative is to report only the minimum and maximum setpoint values, omitting the current setpoint.

30HXA, 30 HXC, 30RA, 30 RB, 30 RC, 30 RAP, 30XW, 30XV, 30 XA, 30 HWV, 30GX, 30 GT, 30 GTN

Delta T

The temperature difference between entering and leaving water. It is a key indicator of system performance and cooling load.

AHP

If the Delta T is unavailable or not entered in the AHP platform. The default value is 10-degree F (or equivalent conversion in degree C).

30HXA, 30 HXC, 30RA, 30 RB, 30 RC, 30 RAP, 30XW, 30XV, 30 XA, 30 HWV, 30GX, 30 GT, 30 GTN

Total Water flow - GPM

It measures the volume of water circulating through the system. It is essential for ensuring the adequate heat exchange and system balance.

Measurement

Technicians are encouraged to enter the latest flow readings made during inspections on the AHP platform for inclusion in the DIR.

30HXA, 30 HXC, 30RA, 30 RB, 30 RC, 30 RAP, 30XW, 30XV, 30 XA, 30 HWV, 30GX, 30 GT, 30 GTN

Minimum Condenser Water Temp

It indicates the lowest allowable temperature of the water leaving the condenser (COND_LWT) that a chiller can operate with without compromising performance or triggering faults.

COND_LWT if available

It is applicable for the water-cooled chillers only.

30HXA, 30 HXC, 30XW, 30XV, 30 XA, 30 HWV, 30GX, 30 GT, 30 GTN

Maximum Condenser Water Temp

It indicates the highest allowable temperature of the water leaving the condenser (COND_LWT) that a chiller can safely operate with without causing performance degradation or triggering faults.

COND_LWT if available

It is applicable for the water-cooled chillers only.

30HXA, 30 HXC, 30XW, 30XV, 30 XA, 30 HWV, 30GX, 30 GT, 30 GTN
